May 15th-26th

Hello Families,

We have been learning about shapes! A shape hunt both inside and outside, had the students searching high and low for different real world representations of 2D and 3D shapes. We learned the names for many 2D shapes and 3D objects as well as how many faces, edges and vertices each shape has. This helped each student to create 'Who Am I?' for a chosen shape. Each student covered the drawing of their chosen shape with a sticky note and wrote down 2-3 statements about their shape. They then shared them with the class, it was quite fun to hear the students try to guess what shapes matched the statements!

In Science, we have continued to learn about Animal. This week we focused on Life Cycles and Adaptations. Show your child a photo of an animal and ask them what type of adaptations it has!

We enjoyed a visit from The Honey Merchants. Did you know that there is only one queen bee in each hive? Ask you child to tell you fun facts about bees!

With it being Mental Health May, the students created abstract art using colours they either felt their emotions connected to, or just colours they liked. Our creations are up in the display case that you can see if you come to watch our assembly on Tuesday @1pm.

Tai-Chi

Sifu Greenhall will be joining us to teach all the grade 1/2s tai-chi during their gym time. Our sessions are on Tuesday May 23rd and Tuesday May30th. Please ensure your child is wearing comfortable clothing these days as we may take our practice outside, weather permitting. We really enjoyed our first session!

Lake Bonavista School is participating in rugby from June 5th until June 8th in our school field. This sport involves foundational movement skills such as jumping, running, throwing, and catching. The goal of this experience is to learn the skills of rugby and will not involve any bodily contact.

Rugby Alberta has generously agreed to provide this residency free of charge.
