Hello Families,

We had a great week learning routines and all about each other.

Circles represent the interconnectedness of all beings, of the cycle of life and the seasons. Each morning we begin our day with circle to learn about each other and how to listen while others are sharing. We have been passing around a talking 'flower' to ensure that we understand when it is our turn to share. We are looking forward to learning more about each other to compare our similarities and differences.

In Math we reviewed and learned about repeating patterns as well as pattern rules and the different attributes that can be used. We built patterns using various materials and coloured chosen ones as well.

We also learned a new math game called 'Make 10' with a deck of cards. If you have a deck of cards, ask your child to show you how. It was amazing to see how fast the students caught on to this game and how engaged they were while playing it!

To show care for our space, we brainstormed a list of ideas of what kinds of jobs we could have. Apparently now we need a class pet!! Stay tuned for what we get.

Make sure to check your child's backpack for a brown envelope! Some paperwork is digital this year and the rest is in the envelope to be returned as soon as possible.

Placemats
During snack time students will be using placemats in their space as part of our Montessori practical-life learning. Our laminated placemats don't hold out very well so we are asking for a placemat from home if possible. Something simple that can fit in your child's lunch kit is perfect - even a tea towel works! The placemat is meant to travel to and from school each day. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

Absences
If your child is going to be absent, please make sure to contact the phone via phone or email. I would also appreciate being cc'd on the email so I am kept in the loop!

Physical Education
This year, we will have a gym time every other day. On the days that we do not have time in the gym, we will be going outside for Phys ed. Please make sure your child has appropriate shoes for both indoor and outdoor Phys ed. At LBS, we love to go outside in all types of weather (unless it's colder than -20) so we will be going outside - rain or shine!
