 Hello Families,

What a busy week, where did it go?

In Math we began to learn about graphing. How do we formulate a question to collect data from our peers? How do we represent the data collected? Students worked together to answer given questions and then were able to create their own such as: What is your favourite Sport? What is your favourite animal? Ask you child what their questions were!

We used tally marks to record our peers responses and used a mini-class checklist to ensure we had asked everyone just once! We also learned how to represent our collected data using a bar graph.

Social Studies

Your child should have brought home their own talking stick they created this week. Using paint, the students created different lines and dot patterns on their stick as well as used yarn to create a place to hold the stick. We learned that you always go to the left when passing a talking stick, ask your child why.

We are using our collaboratively made class talking stick each morning during sharing circle to continue to develop our awareness of who is talking as well as increase our comfort level of sharing in front of our peers.

Word Work Group Updates

In Ms. Romanko's word work group we worked with the blends sn, sc and sw. Pictures were sorted with the rule given and then the students were to create their own rule for a partner to solve. A small group also worked on how to use plural or past tense endings in sentences.

In Ms. Midgley's word work group we reviewed Sh and Ch. We sorted pictures that start with H, SH or CH. We have become masters of SH and CH! Next week we will be learning two new digraphs!

In Ms. Gierl & Ms. Green's groups, students continued their exploration of long and short A sounds with a focus on "a, a_e, ai and oddball words." Ask your child about how the letters e & i might change the short a sound to the long a sound!

In Ms. Greenhall's Word Work Group students have been learning about consonants. This week we reviewed the letters C, H, F and D using the Animated Literacy actions. We then cut and sorted pictures that start with these letters. Ask your child about the actions and sounds for C, H, F and D.

In Ms. Lacour's Word Work Group students have been learning about vowels. This week we continued with short "A" and looked at the "AP" and "AG" word families. We then sorted pictures to match the corresponding words. Ask your child about words in the "AP" and "AG" family.

Hope you enjoy a fabulous weekend!

Ms. Romanko
