Hello Families, This week we braved the rainy weather at Fish Creek Park! We ended our trip a little early but still had a great time. Thank you to our volunteers - these trips aren't possible without you!  On Wednesday, we celebrated National Indigenous Peoples Day. We enjoyed a lovely assembly where we received three flags from the CBE, and then enjoyed a full school sit-spot outside where we were able to do our up, down, all around sketching routine - an activity that we were unable to do at Fish Creek due to the rain.  This week we began to learn about measurement and how to measure using non-standard units such as erasers, pencils, paper clips and unifix cubes. The students went around the room to find items that were longer or shorter than their amount of unifix cubes. NExt week we will practice how to estimate and measure items in our classroom such as a table, whiteboard or carpet using non-standard and standard units of measure! Rugby This month we had the opportunity to p

Hello Families, We had the amazing opportunity to have HAWKS land in our field on Monday. We watched the landing, asked questions, sketched and then watched the helicopter take off! What a great way to start the week. In Science, we have continued our learning about different animals, focusing on what they each, where they live, what they look like and finding out interesting facts. The students have begun to create their own booklets or posters to share their information gathered with their peers. In Math, we have been focusing on shapes and being able to describe their attributes. The students created Wanted posters to share their knowledge of 2D shapes and 3D objects. With the new Wellness Curriculum, we discussed Boundaries and how to communicate them as well as who is in our Relationship circles as Family, friends and acquaintances in our lives. Ask your child what their boundaries were and who they put in their relationship circle! Our school could win $10 000! Please visit the

Hello Families, We have been learning about shapes! A shape hunt both inside and outside, had the students searching high and low for different real world representations of 2D and 3D shapes. We learned the names for many 2D shapes and 3D objects as well as how many faces, edges and vertices each shape has. This helped each student to create 'Who Am I?' for a chosen shape. Each student covered the drawing of their chosen shape with a sticky note and wrote down 2-3 statements about their shape. They then shared them with the class, it was quite fun to hear the students try to guess what shapes matched the statements! In Science, we have continued to learn about Animal. This week we focused on Life Cycles and Adaptations. Show your child a photo of an animal and ask them what type of adaptations it has! We enjoyed a visit from The Honey Merchants. Did you know that there is only one queen bee in each hive? Ask you child to tell you fun facts about bees! With it being Mental Healt

Volunteers needed!

Fish Creek Field Trip On Tuesday, June 20th we will be heading to Fish Creek Park near Bow Valley Ranche for a field trip with Ms. Midgley's and Ms. Greenhall's classes. We are looking for at least 5 volunteers to join us for this experience. Your responsibilities include supporting students during whole-group activities in the morning, supervising lunch, and leading small-group park exploration in the afternoon. If you have your CBE police clearance and are interested in volunteering on this day, please send me an email. I will do my best to take as many volunteers as I can and will give priority to those who have not had a chance to volunteer yet this year.

Hello Families, 30 x 30 Outdoor Challenge We continued to enjoy our time outside this week. Whether is was with our grade 3 buddies or on our own, we were able to get outside every day! We even cleaned up the perimeter of the field one morning. We will continue to be going outside everyday. We do ask you to put sunscreen or bug spray on your child before they come to school. If you are sending it for them to put on, please ensure they know how to do it themselves and that they know not to share with others. Thank you! Math Fractions have been a big part of our lessons these past two weeks and wow, did the students ever pick up on what a fraction was! Learning terms such as numerator, denominator, whole, part, partition, equal and unequal helped them complete their pizza fractions and name fractions with ease! Here are a few examples. Literacy We have been working on learning the rules of bossy 'r'! Each morning our Opening task has had us unscrambling letters to find a differe

Hello Families, Math We have begun to learn about Fractions! Grade 1's will be learning about one-half as a part-whole relationship and the Grade 2's will be learning how to interpret part-whole relationships using unit fractions. It is quite amazing how fast they are picking up how to write and represent fractions. Ask your child where we see fractions in our world. Walking Field Trip On Tuesday, we went for our walking field trip. The students looked for patterns in nature. It was quite an adventure! Ask your child what their favourite part was! Buoyancy Challenge We have begun to learn about Boats and Buoyancy with an experiment around what items in our classroom can float or sink. Predictions were made and surprises were had!  A message about building materials will come home on the weekend! Artist in Residence We have had two more sessions with our Artist in Residence, Ms. Sharon. This week we learned how to use art pencils and special erasers to draw snowflakes. Using ski
